War Is Hell, And Then You Win. Or Lose.

Victor Davis Hansen writes a needed reminder about the terrible blunders committed by the Allied commanders in World War Two and the cost in lives from those mistakes. (Here.) Yet through it all, Americans continued to support the troops and their mission, and the Allies emerged victorious. Georges Clemenceau said it best early in the 20th Century: "War is a series of catastrophes that results in a victory." (Here.) Notice how he doesn't say for whom the victory results. That's decided by whoever wants the victory more.
